Thread: Boat & RV Storage

I'am sure someone has asked this before, Do you use the same rental aggreement on boat & RV storage as your units? We have been using the same. Thanks. Jeff

Storsmart: I'am in the same boat, I guess I will sit down sometime and write one just for outside, boat & RV storage.

We use a Boat/Vehicle Addendum along with the rental agreement. We MUST have proof of ownership, via copy of title or insurance certificate. We require Make, Model, Year, Color, VIN number, Tag Information, Lien Holder info and Insurance info......

We then also photograph the boat or rv and upload it to the tenants account and also place in the file. I cannot tell you what a nightmare it is to go in after a former manager that did not do this and try to figure it out. I have had this happen THREE times!! Right now I have about 40 that are parked and NONE of that info was recorded. Now I have to go thru the process of getting that info from all of the parking tenants!

Hey MusicCity Gal we do the same thing here an addendum insurance registration info and all that good stuff you mentioned works well for us.

Let me share one insights. The Texas Self Storage Association, who had the first state wide uniform storage rental agreement for their members, several years ago got attorney Jeff Greenberger (www.selfstoragelegal.com) involved in helping to write a unique boat and RV storage rental agreement. There are a variety of addendums that can be used depending of circumstances. I have always respected the leadership of TSSA and they concluded that a separate storage agreement was the right answer. We use the same rental agreement, but with the additional addendum as well. MCG I understand your pain. We had no info connecting vehicles to tenants when we came in and the process of sorting it out and reorganizing continues. We've been here for 6 months now and are finally able to start dealing with the two vehicles that we found that have no contract or tenant information. Luckily we have a friendly police officer who ran the tags for us so we could get owner information and attempt contact. Also great idea to have a picture in the file. We are going to do that soon.

If you have parking at your facility, please park the vehicles in designated spaces and have a map of those space numbers. If you aren't there forever, the person who replaces you will need some guidelines about how everything is set up.

I have a separate rental agreement for vehicles. It was written by attorneys for the California Self Storage Association.
