Are Building and Development Picking Up?
Time to comment on the industry overall. Are building and development finally trending up in the U.S., or is it still stagnant? There are several signs of broader economic recovery, so I wanted to see what you're observing in the industry.

Re: Are Building and Development Picking Up?
As I am sitting here in a brand newly constructed facility as of 3/19/10, we're hoping that at least building of storage facilities is up. However, unfortunately, many new renters are with us because of unfortunate circumstances, losing their job, moving in w/family, and storing so hopefully they can turn things around!
My owners see more people getting out of the storage industry, selling smaller "Mom and Pops" establishments that are mismanaged or micromanaged. My owners see a growing need in our area for clean/secure storage facilities and are currently seeking to expand their current base.
They have found what many posters here have reiterated...you cannot beat excellent customer service combined w/location and a great product.

Re: Are Building and Development Picking Up?
We are seeing a definite increase in building shipments, as we usually do at this time of year, but more impressive is the amount of pre-sale activity going on. It seems that a lot of people who were nervous about building in 2009 have decided that 2010 is the time to pull the trigger.

Re: Are Building and Development Picking Up?
Great news for the industry! Just last week, ISS posted a handful of news items about new construction. And another one today.
