One of the more interesting and unique uses of a marquee I have seen was a storage facility that was located on a busy surface street. They had an electronic marquee and the controller was in their office. Early every morning they changed the message.
Now, the message did not relate to their business. It was a quote, or a bit of triva, or a humorous saying. For example 'Forecast for tonight- DARK'. The point is- the regular drive by traffic developed a habit of looking at the sign each day to see what it said, creating awareness of the business through association. The sign and business became a local landmark. When I asked the mgmt about how effective it was they stated when they went on a mini vacation for several days it was not changed....and, they had people stop in and/or call to see if everything was ok with them. |

Another idea for using your sign is to give it away to local charities, churches, schools and community groups. Develop a letter that goes out to all of these various groups within your community. Simply tell them that you have a marquee sign on Main Street that 10,000 vehicles pass by every day. Offer to promote an upcoming charity event that they are having on the sign. Enclose a form for them to use that gives them the number of characters and spacing available along with the dates of the event. Give them a deadline well in advance of their event so that you can properly schedule your sign usage. Post the sign, but remember to take a picture of their message on your sign. A few days after the event, send them a thank you note and picture along with a form for next year. What is happening is that hundreds of local residents are hearing at their community group, church or school about your storage facility and the great corporate citizen that you are in helping promote their events. In addition to the added attention your sign will get from passing motorists, you develop good will and name recognition with an untold number of citizens who are all potential future customers. Total costs for this marketing outreach – some office time, a few stamps and envelopes and good follow-up. Results Priceless! Best of luck, MsterJim444

Hello,
Another idea that I have used in the past is adding trivia questions. Or I have advertised "stop in and rent your unit before the end of ----- and enter to will tickets to the ?????. This works great and will provide you with a few extra rentals. Thae last time I did this I did 86 rentals in one month!!! Just an idea ![]() |
