Smile Cleaning Climate Control Doors

We have been open for approximately 3 years now and pride ourselves on being a bright and clean storage facility in the Baton Rouge, LA area.

One of our monthly tasks is cleaning the doors and walls in our Climate Control area. We have found this to be a time consuming chore and were wondering if anyone has any bright ideas on cleaning the doors.

We use the Janis product and I think it would be neat if someone knew of a grooved dust brush that would get in between all of the slats on the doors.

Please share your thoughts!

We have the same basic problem only we are in the desert. We have tried everything we can think of from all types of brushes to rags. If there is an inventor type out there that can come up with a brush that actually works there would be a bunch of money to be made.

Thanks for the reply... Great idea!

It cant be that difficult. A 3 or 4 foot long want with groves for the ribs on the doors is all we need! Its gotta be out there somewhere.

We tried using one of the California Dusters (intended for cars) on our doors.

It worked great, but here in the desert with the winds and dust we have it was a waste of time. Before you could finish a hallway it was dusty again!

Very frustrating!

Yes, California dusters...the dirtier they get the better they work. I use a system: One day the top third of the doors, then the middle and the third day the bottom third. a half dozen times a year here in Ohio. I don't know if they are still on the market.

On my climate control doors I use a dry swiffer 1st to remove the dust & loose dirt, then I use an inexpensive (Big Lots or Dollar Store Brand) wet X-Large Sweeper cloths to go over. My method is one side of the hallway one morning, then a couple of days later, the other side of the hallway. I'm glad I don't have your dust, Autodoc, cuz it's nice to see it looking clean for a good while after I've cleaned the doors--even my DM notices the shine!! (used to use bucket & sponge -- change the water often---yucky!)

I clean the interior doors two times per year and just finished for the warmer months. I have no tricks to make the process less trying , however i use degreaser, water and shop towels. Something about the cleaner, the dust does not seem to stick as bad for a number of months. I am the only manager of 7 locations using this and my doors are staying cleaner and shiny longer. I have been using Mean Green and greased lightening. Both products seem to work equally as well.

there wasn't one when i started looking for one when we worked in houston .. so i made one using foam rubber, spray adhesive and an old dust mop with the handle cut off - golf club length ..and an old tube sock ... it worked so well, i took it with me to arlington .. then took it with me after i felt there ..

Lot of good ideas! We got in touch with Janus doors to see if they make something or know of somebody that does. The "salesman" that called us must be getting close to retirement...Mrs gofer1 wanted to reach thru the phone and pull his nose hairs out one by one. In the past the Janus people have been very friendly and helpful.
Dusting doors here is a no win situation, we just try to keep it from building up too deep, and taking up all our time.
