I think I have finally talked the owner in to allowing me to have some pods on the facility for storage. I am curious who else has done this and what company they went with, especially in the PNW, what sizes were available and what pricing and payment structure they came up with. Thank you in advance for your help.

Great idea! I believe you have mentioned in the past that you are basically totally occupied. I am guessing you have some unused space on the property? Is it paved or not? I have done some research into these and they seem to work well. Keep us informed (I know you will).

        Re: Storage Pods

The area to put the pods is at the back of the facility where there is a very wide asphalt area and then a curb the complete length of that area and a razor wire topped fence along that whole length. Myself and the owner drove the area yesterday and counted enough space for 5-6 20' pods parallel parked against the curb that would still allow for even the biggest 28' straight trucks to turn at the end of the building aisles. The facility was built to allow for the large over the road moving trucks to pull in here but that has only happened 4-5 times since I have been here almost 3 years. There is no other facility in town that can allow for the big truck access and most of the time the big trucks unload to a smaller straight truck before coming on the property. I feel we can make better use of that area instead of waiting for a large truck. We would place them with the door openings facing the backs of the pod in front so the tenant can back up to the door and not be in the way of the other pod door. I am just curious about pricing, the companies some of you have used and if anyone had any problems. We need bigger units to rent and I feel it is a perfect opportunity. So far no one has responded with any prices or company names but I hope to hear soon. Thanks to you all.

I did just email two of the storage container companies that advertise in the ISS Magazine.

As I start to get info in from the two companies I emailed I will post that on here. The videos at the company web sites show them assembling the containers within 15 minutes.

PODS is a loaded term. In this case I prefer "Portable Unit" or "Mini-Unit". PODS to me indicates that you will deliver the unit to a customer's driveway, pick it up later & store it somewhere on your facility until it is to be delivered again. "Portable Units" to me indicate non-permanent units that take advantage of your setbacks & easements to provide more ON-SITE storage.

Ok, Stevedore, if you ever say Kleenex instead of tissue, I am calling you on that! LOL! PODS, IMO, is used because it is easier and less typing but you are absolutely correct.

Yeah, but PODS will sue you (and win) if you use it in your marketing or web site. That's the important nugget of info you want to take away from this.

Brother, if you don't call me on "Kleenex", I won't call YOU on "Chlorox" for generic bleach.
I do believe that the "PODS" acronym stands for Portable On Demand Storage.

BTW a few years ago I flew to New Jersey to be interviewed by the folks who gave us "COWS". I forget what that stands for, but they had a nice POD-like system that had a hydraulic roll-off trailer that could be towed by a pickup truck.

"Container On Wheels"=COWS. Could go on a hitch type or fifth wheel trailer that you could tow behind a pickup truck.

I am a bachelor again, after my wife died, I don't know what bleach is.

We are doing something along the lines of storage pods, but we are manufacturing them ourselves. I don't find that it's very worthwhile to be paying another company for their pods when we could save a lot of money just getting them constructed especially for our business and customers. Then we can really specify how big we need them and they'll fit perfectly to what we require for the majority of our customers who want to rent them.

Just before close at 6 PM I had a call from a young guy asking if I had ANY units. First red flag there. I asked if he knew what size he needed and when he needed it. He said I need it today! Second red flag! He said he needed an 8x10 or a 10x10. I have a couple open 5x10 units but no 10x10. I did not...

Background checks, and credit checks, for a person to rent a storage unit, is a slippery slope for sure! I Pac has the best method, which is to say there are no vacancies, until he can tell that the person will not be a PITA. Everyone has a past, some complaints, maybe even some convictions.
