I'm looking to trade an ad on my site at http://www.storwell.com/current-auctions. In exchange I would like a link on your website. I'm mostly looking for auction related websites, that would benefit from their ad being placed in the auction section of our website.

Of course this wouldn't benefit other storage facilities but perhaps some of you may know of , or have your hands in other areas of business.

you can contact me at joel@storwell.com

Link exchanges aren't powerful, in fact they are devalued in Google's algorithm and if done improperly can have a negative effect!

You should read Google's Webmaster Guidelines: http://support.google.com/webmasters...n&answer=35769

The part you want to pay attention to says: "Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links."

They even link to an article that goes more into what a link scheme is: http://support.google.com/webmasters...n&answer=66356

You'll once again want to pay attention to: "Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging ("Link to me and I'll link to you.")"

The above also doesn't take into consideration what effect the Panda algorithm from last year and the Penguin update back in May did to devalue them even more.

          Re: Seo

Focus on anchor text with content. Your best option for heavy links is to build them with content and get the posted. If you can get one way links, those will carry more weight than the linking back and forth as mentioned above.

As LockItUpOgden and SSandecki have stated, links exchange can actually hurt your business. What you can do is write an email to someone in your industry and tell them you liked their blog or mission statement or whatever, and then you can ask if they would link your site to theirs. SEO works best if it's one way, your link on someone's site - but caution, be careful "which" site you get backlinks to because that too, can do more damage than good.
