Arrow They want to film our auction!

Got a call from A & E today asking if they can come and film our auction next month.

I passed the info along to my owners to follow up with the man who called me.

I think it sounds like a great idea from my perspective.

I'm wondering what the drawbacks might be.

    Any thoughts?

Seriously, just remember you will have no control over what is aired or what ends up on the cutting room floor. Proceed with caution, enjoy the experience if you do it and report back to all of us. You'd be a terrific rep for our industry if the producers show the real story & don't portray you/us as vultures preying on the down-trodden. Please keep us posted.

Gina, the first thing I said was, "I have to get my hair and nails done and I need new clothes!" And of course, I should be reimbursed because I'm representing the company, right?

Cool. I always like to know the show and the spin they might be intending to convey to ensure it meets with your interests. After that media prep yourself and your site so that you can put on your best face/site and not get caught up in any setups or embarrasing moments.

Make sure your auction is bang on.

I'd spend a few extra $$ to prepare for this depending on how much airtime they predict.

ABSOLUTELY! It's a business write off, right?!

Like Madman said, spruce up everything, but don't over stress, you want to be relaxed, refreshed and enjoy it when the time comes. Skip the nails, no way the camera will focus on those anyway.

Spit polish everything up and warn your auction buyers to wear their 'good' jeans and behave. I don't know about you all, but our gang can get rowdy at times, all in good fun, but not what exactly what you'd want aired. This is exciting, I hope things work out.

I can't wait to hear what A & E offers as payment for the use of your "stage" to record a tv show that they make money on after all.

Might be worth creating a dummy unit with the usual fur coats - oil paintings - antiques and of course a couple of gold coin collections - just like the delinquent customers claim to have when they come in a few days after the auction with their wild claims about what was in their unit.

Best of luck and don't forget to take pictures of the folks taking pictures so you can post them on your website and in the office. It is also worth a press release to local media to mention that they will be there filming at your store as well as a follow-up release detailing when the show will air on A & E.

I wonder if this is part of that new show Auction Hunters that I saw a promo for. It showed them bidding and winning a storage auction then going through and reselling.
