I love this: Specific things you can't store!!!
I was looking at the website of SST member "Storage Dunstable." I saw this list of specific things you can't store. I think it's awesome...and quite detailed.
Does anyone else have a specific list in writing like this?MamaDuke

Wow, I never thought anyone would explore our site in such detail but thank you for the kind comments. In the industry we all tend to blithely say that customers can store almost anything but I think it is useful to have a simple checklist of what cannot be stored. Our thoughts behind creating this list was obviously to help customers understand what was not storable but also to bolster our case in a possible dispute with a customer, as well as helping to prove to our insurers that we are adhering to their requirements.

Wow, very interesting. we should have a big poster that states all this and keep in our office to remind our customers not to store these items.

A sign is a good idea, I wish I had one that worked, I have rent due of the 1st of the month sign, no trash dumping sign, speed limit 5 mph sign, office hours sign, gate hours sign, we dont prorate sign, Late fee schedule sign, and they just dont seem to get the message accross. These signs are backed up by being on the lease, and me verbally explaining each one, but they still dont seem to work. I keep hearing, " I did not know" Example: I did not know I could not leave these stained mattress and old nasty couch in your drive, even though I have a sign. Other places, Like malls, apartment's, neighborhoods they will somehow know they cant dump old stuff in the middle of it. However when I have a sign it seems it has the opposite effect. I think I will just keep dealing with these issues and no more signs, remember the song, signs, signs, everywhere a sign, breaking up the scenery............

There are so many signs here that I don't think I have even read them all!!!
People don't care until there is a problem. Then they claim ignorance whether it's true or not.
The bottom line is that if they sign the contract and the addendums, it's their responsibility to know what they contain. Period.
Not that our lives are made any easier because of that, but still...MamaDuke

Superbob- I think you hit the nail on the head and identified your own problem. Sign fatigue. I've been on facilities that are truly packed with signs in every direction, I don't read them either. When I built my facility I specifically decided to have as little signage as possible on the facility. I have only 3 signs: 2 bathroom signs and a 5mph sign. That's it.
If you're having issues with training tenants on how to act, often another sign is not the answer. In no way affiliated with Storman software.

So... do we go slap their Mommas or line the entire facility with newspaper?!

We have our Hours & Crime Watch signs on the gate. MPH inside the property on a stand. In the office, a "We reserve the right to refuse..." and one other one above our coffee machine that reads: Everyone brings joy to this office, some by coming, others by going. Other than that, as we go through the lease there is a little clause that reads; "All rules posted in the office become part of this contract" As they look around and see no signage, I take the opportunity to reinforce the speed limit, that rent is due on the first, and basically to be respectful of everyone while on site. It's the old not so common sense speech.
As for what can/can't be stored... can you see the lawsuit where the plaintiff states, "Their list did not prohibit me from storing my collection of XXX memorabilia" or some such nonsense.
