Hello self storage people. I'm an architect and we have drawn over 250 facilities over the last 8-9 years. I hope that I can help answer some questions for you from time to time. I am currently registered in 10 states. Good luck to all of you with your current and future facilities. Pat

BJLee-- often communications companies like to locate their cell towers on storage facilities. There is built in security, access, power, lack of nearby obstructions, and usually nobody nearby to object to the aesthetics of the tower. We have a tower on our facility, they take up 3 of our units which would generate about $450, but pay us MUCH more per month....

Hi BJLee:
Cellular Towers (there are over 200,000 in the US) are an excellent way to bump up the revenue of a self-storage facility. As storman mentioned, they pay much better than your average tenant for non climate-controlled space. If you ever have the opportunity to consider one, I highly recommend it. The leases usually last for 20-30 years, and sometimes longer. The rent comes every month without prompting. I know because I develop the sites for wireless companies. towerguy
