Fun Stuff to Do in New Orleans
It's not too early to start getting excited about the next Inside Self-Storage World Expo, Sept. 29 - Oct. 1 in New Orleans.
I've never been to New Orleans, so the attractions I know of are Bourbon Street, the French Quarter, the river, and ... I'm drawing blanks beyond that.
Help me fill in the blanks. What are some of the can't-miss New Orleans attractions?

Re: Fun Stuff to Do in New Orleans
Simply put' Nawlins is the only place where when you're eating one meal, you're planning where to have your next one.
Too many choices, not enough time or stomach room to savor all of the treats.
If you love seafood, there is no place better to get your fill. Mufalettas, Po'boys, Bananas Foster and of course, the beignets and cafe au lait at Cafe Du Monde, are all must haves.
Fun? There's the Voodoo Tours, Cemetary Tours, Air boat rides out in the swamps to check out the gators real up close & personal. This is fun, especially when your air boat captain is like a character out of Deliverance. Hmm, where did they film that movie?
Catch a ride over to Mobile and tour the USS Alabama, & check out all of the military history in the area. Take a tour of the Garden District, stroll the Riverwalk. Learn the differences between Creole & Cajun, attend a crab boil, listen to Zydeco music, gambling in Biloxi, going out on a riverboat, slurping up tons of crawdads dipped in real butter, the list goes on & on. Oh and don't forget to try a sweet tea while you're there. And absolutely no calorie counting or diets allowed while you're in New Orleans!
Oh and just remember, slow down your pace. It's a warm, humid climate and the people are sweet and gracious but tend to take things a little more laid back and definitely don't do things in a "New York minute."

And the outstanding educational content of the EXPO! OK the other stuff you listed sounds like enough of a reason to plan to attend the EXPO. Nothing like using one of the few remaining tax benefts of being a small business owner - business travel for the most part is still deductible to justify coming to NO and join in the fun.

Re: Fun Stuff to Do in New Orleans
I second the enthusiasm for all the wonderful activities mentioned above. Among my personal favorites are the haunted-house and swamp tours ... the creepier the better! But the sheer abundance of choice is overwhelming. Here are a few other activities to keep in mind:
Take the street car over to the Garden District and enjoy a walking tour. The architecture in that area is simply stunning. Lafayette Cemetery and the former Anne Rice house, featured in many of her novels, are highlights of this excursion, too. The last time I took a GD tour, we saw Nicholas Cage entering his home.
The New Orleans City Park offers some gorgeous sights and exhibits, particularly at that time of year. Get ideas and details at New Orleans City Park.
Make a reservation to eat at Commander's Palace. Ask to be seated in the Garden Room. My, oh, my. The turtle soup is a specialty.
Head to Bayona restaurant in the Quarter and enjoy the delicacies of chef Susan Spicer. Do NOT under any circumstances miss your chance to try her "Goat Cheese Crouton With Mushrooms in Madeira Cream." Your life will simply never be the same.
I could ramble on and on. I'll post new suggestions regularly over the next several months.

Oh my goodness! I can't wait... the food alone. Mmm... I hear New Orleans is home to the U.S. largest Insectarium! I love bugs and creepy crawlers, best of all... I think its right down the street from the hotel. Ohh I hope its open late on week days.

Lol, northerners come south and discover sweet tea and realize it's the "bee's knees", but try ordering sweet tea in the North and you'll get a look that says "the men in white coats are on the way with your special jacket."
That said...Be sure to check out Jackson Square. There are always artist set up around there drawing people, the river, or the cathedral. I'm of the opinion that the Market Cafe has the best muffalettas, but if I'm wrong I'd love a second opinion. The airboat tours are fun and informative.
Be VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL when venturing out of the main tourist areas. It's tempting to cross the river to check out some of the local neighborhoods, but it can be very dangerous.
Have a good time and follow Gina6k's advise: don't think about the calories, think about how wonderful the food is! NOLA is a great place to walk off all the bad stuff you eat, and the humidity will help sweat off some pounds.

Re: Fun Stuff to Do in New Orleans
hnelson310, I grew up on the stuff, drinking it literally out of Mason jars!
You are right, exploring should be done cautiously and in daylight hours. Great advice when visiting any new area!
We went off the beaten path on a previous trip to get to my Great Aunt's home and quickly found ourselves with a blown tire on our rental car and in a not so great (scary) place in between our hotel and my Aunt's home. It was just getting dark to boot. Eek.
