Derek Naylor of Storage Marketing Solutions just tossed out $1,000 in cash to people in this seminar room.

Well, not to everyone ... just to everyone who was winning to don a latex Pinocchio nose and yell "I'm a real boy!"

No, I'm not making this up. It was awesome.

Ouch! Rub salt in the wound! Sounds like fun... when do we expect to receive our 'wish you could be here' postcards? Or are these posts the 'new' version of those?

Have fun and don't worry about us here, we're holding down the fort for you.

We miss you, Gina! Derek also said some nice words about you this morning during the opening session on marketing.

The seminars are FANTASTIC! These speakers have a wealth of info to share. We'll be heading into the Self-Storage Q&A shortly.

And the hotel isn't too shabby either. Actually, it's pretty amazing, right on the Potomac River. I watched the sunset last night from the dock.

If you couldn't make it to the DC show, put Vegas on your calendar, March 1-3. We'll have more info on the show on the Expo website next week.

Wink Great First Day...

... and back to the room to rest up for tomorrow! Ditto all previous comments about the good attendance and the great speakers! Always fun and informational when Hon. J. Greenberger speaks, and the Q & A (Jim C- Mel H) & Roundtable were great!

Oh, and Barbara (my wife, of course) is having a great time, not only in the sessions but as we stroll the harbor area looking in the shops! In fact, she's now an official member of the Godiva Chocolate Rewards Club. Yeah!

Imagine the Fun we'll have tomorrow...

Wish you were here!

So, I guess I am a strong female! I've resisted Godiva on every trip to Las Vegas. Chalk one up for me. That and $5 and I can get a cup of coffee.

John, thanks for the update, keep us all in the loop. Glad Barbara is indulging, that's what hubby's trips are for, spending your money! All in all, sounds like you guys had a highly successful day. Can't wait to hear what tomorrow brings.

Someone please tell Derek thanks from me, and I now expect a discount when we sign up with him! He can't get away with saying nice things about me without paying a price.

Good morning, all, from the back of the room in the first marketing track of the day.

I'm currently listening to Eric Shanfelt's presentation on how to use the Internet to build your SS business. It's already full of excellent information. Eric, the executive VP for online media at Virgo Publishing, is truly an all-star on our Virgo team. He's got another session at 11, where he will be examining some case studies of self-storage businesses. Topics he'll hit on are search engine optimization, search engine marketing, organic vs. paid search and numerous other areas. That's in Potomac 5-6.

Keep checking back for more updates.
