The Great SST Summer Meet-Up Challenge
One of the best facets of Self-Storage Talk, the industry's largest online community, is the occasional opportunity for in-person meet-ups between people who previously had known each other only as usernames on a computer screen. Because the forum and self-storage in general is full of friendly, hard-working people, I always enjoy meeting others, which I have done numerous times at industry events. The Inside Self-Storage World Expo has been fun for me for this reason. However, that means I see SST friends only twice a year, some only once, and many not at all.
That's why I'd like to try something fun as the summer travel season starts: The Great Self-Storage Talk Summer Meet-Up Challenge. As people hit the roads or skies this summer, either for fun or business, it would be great if they could arrange get-togethers with forum friends, even if it's only for a minute at someone's facility. I personally will be participating, as I'll be dropping in on moderator Madman while I'm trekking through the Pacific Northwest. Here's what to do:
1. Update your location to an accurate location in your user control panel [http://www.selfstoragetalk.com/usercp.php]. Mine is set to Chicago, IL. It appears with each one of my posts.
2. Post in this thread with your vacation or traveling plans. If you think it's insecure to post specific dates (because, you're right, it's not smart to broadcast to the world when you won't be home) just give general dates and general location (for example, "a week in late July in Oregon").
3. Continue to monitor this thread to see who has posted their travel plans and to see if anyone is swinging by your way.
4. If someone is headed your way, either reply in the thread or send the member a private message to arrange a get-together.
5. If you successfully arrange a meetup, make sure to take a photo of the SST members hanging out and post it here. I'll be sure to feature it in the monthly e-newsletter.
For fun, let's see which peripatetic members of our forum can arrange the most meetups. I'm looking forward to participating myself and, hopefully, to meeting more great people.
I'll go first: I'm going to Portland, Seattle and Vancouver, B.C., in mid-to-late July. Anyone visiting Chicagoland this summer?

Re: The Great SST Summer Meet-Up Challenge
I will be going to Yosemite and Mammoth Lakes, CA in late June or early July.
Otherwise, I'm about 5 minutes from the LA-Ontario International Airport, so if you have even just a layover here, let me know. I'll come meet you at the airport!MamaDuke

Paula.......Oakdale is on the way to Yosemite. (it's really not a destination, just someplace you have to pass through!) Well, maybe not if you're coming from the south, you can get there from Merced also
. But....if by chance you are coming through Oakdale--stop by!!
Have you ever stopped to think and forgotten to start again?

Re: The Great SST Summer Meet-Up Challenge
We're taking a staycation here in Myrtle Beach this summer, then a cruise to the Virgin Islands in October...do they have storage facilities in the Virgin Islands?
Anyway, if anyone is coming to Myrtle Beach, we are right smack dab in the middle of it, so come on by and see us! Mister Jim has already been here, he will confirm that a visit is worth the stop!

Is this where I say "Come visit England!!!"??

Seriously though, please do! We've just had a Royal wedding don't you know?? Surely one of you must've been tempted to visit us to see that...? No? Oh well, never mind. There's always the Olympics

Re: The Great SST Summer Meet-Up Challenge
It looks like we will take a vacation or two this year. But, probably not going anywhere.
But y'll can come to Cashiers, cause there is so much to do. Okay, there is nothing to do, but, while doing nothing, you are surrounded by one of the most beautiful places you can imagine. If y'll come to visit, I promise I'll even take a shower, and get rid of the long, flowing, white beard for the visit.

Re: The Great SST Summer Meet-Up Challenge
Looking at heading down to Jamestown, VA late in the summer for a few days. Anybody down there? And if anybody is crazy enough to deal with the traffic in DC or Baltimore, we're dead in the middle between them, and we'd LOVE to see somebody! Can't promise my husband won't try to rent you a unit or two, LOL! We can get pretty dang desperate!
But we'll make ya a sammich and an iced tea and show you around!
