Thumbs up And the Winner is...

Congratulations to JBforTN for winning this year's "Loving Las Vegas" essay contest, sponsored by Chateau Products Inc.!

    JBforTN has earned:
    • Roundtrip airfare to Las Vegas
    • Three nights at the Paris Hotel & Resort
    • A standard education package to the Inside Self-Storage World Expo

We're excited to have him join us in Las Vegas for the show. He is the manager of A+ Storage of Spring Hill in Tennessee and has clearly demonstrated a strong commitment to his local community and customers. Congrats!

    Here is his winning entry:

What a great honor and privilege to have this stage to write about the impact that our self-storage company, A+ Storage, has on our local community. There are several amazing local community events and volunteer opportunities that A+ Storage of Spring Hill is passionate about and certainly ardently involved with. Each opportunity to better our community is important to us and we know that our community is just as important as our service to our customers - they are our strength and we can’t have one without the other.
The first example of service to our community is how we are there for our neighbors in their time of need. One of our tenants is an elderly widow who lives alone. She was surprisingly running late on her payment, and attempts to contact her over the phone went unanswered. She’d stopped in on the regular basis in the past, even just to say hello, but her not responding made us worry. My wife and I decided it would be best to drive over to her house to make sure she was okay. Thankfully she was okay, but she told us that her car had broken down for about a week and she had no way to get around. Also, all of her family lives a good distance away. Without hesitation we offered to take her into town ourselves so she could run all of her errands and even stock up on MUCH needed groceries. She and my wife had a wonderful time that morning and into the afternoon running around town. She said she never expected anyone to come and offer to help her, but that she was glad it was us that did. We wouldn’t accept anything from her for what we’d done, except for a smile and a hug, but to our surprise we soon after received very nice calls and thank you cards in the mail from her family. She is doing well know and still has that same beautiful smile each time we see her.
A+ Storage of Spring Hill is also highly involved with our local community through the Chamber of Commerce (where I serve as an Ambassador and also on the Board of Directors), doing radio and newspaper interviews, and with local events that we co-sponsor and have booths such as at the Spring Hill Country Ham Festival and the Spring Hill Business Expo. One event was a charity Christmas tree auction where local businesses could sponsor and decorate a real tree, then donate the proceeds from the auction to a fundraiser/charity of our choice. A+ Storage purchased one of these trees, but even before that we already knew where the proceeds would go. A local minister and dear friend to A+, a leader in our community who always gave back without ever asking anything in return, was in a situation that would affect his and the life of his family tremendously. He has been a type 1 diabetic for since he was a small child, but it has progressively become worse. Last year he was faced with challenge of needing to have a pancreas transplant to survive. A+ Storage of Spring Hill was more than willing to donate 100% of the proceeds of the Christmas tree we auctioned, as well as 100% of the proceeds from a special barbecue fundraiser we sponsored in his honor, a total donation of just over $3000. In this example we gave back to ensure that he and all of us can continue to work together to make our local community great.
2013 was a very special year for A+ of Spring Hill in general, but one very special moment stands out as well. My wife and I have family that travel internationally to help build homes, churches, and teach children who otherwise may never receive an education. During a trip to Honduras in 2013, A+ of Spring Hill was able to send tote bags for the people there to use when they travel to the market. The people in the village put these to use immediately and we were so happy to hear that this makes their daily life a little easier.
During our A+ Storage award banquet in December it was an honor to find out that I’d earned the 2013 A+ Storage of Tennessee Community Service Award. The fact is, I humbly share this award with our community. We work together to make this a place where our children can look forward to raising their kids. A+ Storage of Spring Hill will continue to create and be involved with opportunities to strengthen our community.

Congrats to JB! It was wonderful to meet our winner at the show. He let me snap this picture of him with Tony Borysenko, Chateau's vice president of operations.
