Default $1 per Day - Are You Kidding Me???

Ok, I am really floored with this one. A competitor of mine has an ad in the newspaper and online:

$1 Per Day
ANY SIZE Storage Unit

Seriously? A 10x25 for $30 a month?? 250 square feet??? Even a 10x10 for $30.....WOW....There is NO way I can compete with that.....

What do you all think?

SEE COUPON BELOW!!!

$1 a day O.o Idk perhaps it was a typo that was never caught, and that itself is a far stretch. Does it apply to Move In's up to a certain date or did he leave it open ended Just thinking about it makes me uneasy lol

I know, right?? It was in the newspaper and it is also online. I emailed it to my owner. My hubby is going to call them from his cell on Monday and get the specifics and I will follow up. They know me down there because we refer back and forth if I am out of something or vice versa. You know, she called me about a week ago asking for our current pricing and specials. I didn't think anything about it because we have shared this info for almost 4 years. It's not the manager down there, it is her owners.

I could see an introductory special for new tenants, but for how long? It did not say Certain Restrictions Apply. In fact it was completely Open Ended....... Here it is!!

Hmmm. it is strange that the special has no restrictions. I've concluded two things: A) The owner must have won the lotto and is a secret millionaire and revenue means nothing to him B) He's knows something we don't... like when start acting strange; I once read that a farmer discovered one of his cows had begun to eat his chickens. I dont want my storage to be eaten

Julie Funny!!!

Ok, so we mystery shopped them and the deal is $1 per day for your first month plus an admin fee then go to regular price the 2nd month. The coupon should at least say *restrictions apply. One could argue that it doesn't. Now with that knowledge, I can match that......$1 per day is better than $1 for your first month. Actually very creative marketing.

Why didn't I think of that????????????

You can also call them out on their deal when customers come into your shop raving about the $1 a day "offer" at the other place.

"Offer" had to be in quotes, as I'm remembering from my business law class that an advertisement is not an offer -- at least generally not.

Default Do You Have to Match the $1 Offer?

MusicCity Gal - can you afford to match the deal? It's tempting to get nervous about what your competitor is doing. But, is it necessary? Are people calling and asking if you are matching? Could you just match the people who ask for it?

Remember, not everyone is an economic buyer. Not everyone cares about a $1 special. What have you got that they don't? Even if your occupancy is lower than you want, do you have to cave?
