10 Worst U.S. Airports
J.D. Power and Associates released a list of the 10 WORST airports in America. Customers were asked about their satisfaction level on six factors including check-in and security.
No surprise, some of the biggest airports made the list. Anyone have any experience with these top 10?

yes, O'Hare, whose picture should be next to 'cluster..' in the dictionary. If you have a departing flight anytime after 11am, and sometimes even before, you can be certain of a delay. I've had three experiences with O'Hare: one led to sleeping overnight in the airport itself, a second meant a missed connection in Detroit and a stay at a very nice Westin on the airport grounds, and the 3rd had me literally running through the Charlotte airport to catch a connection.
Those of you who have access to Southwest, and the accompanying trip to Midway Airport, should consider yourselves fortunate. O'Hare's runway configuration is poor so delays are practically ensured; its terminals a Lego-like mish-mash that ensures mile-long hikes, adding one more degree of difficulty to making a connection; and its restaurants and restrooms cramped.

So, LAX was only #2 -- LaGuardia must REALLY suck
The other fun part about LAX is the traffic!
This is why we always fly out of Burbank!

Been there...
... Boston's Logan and LAX can be pretty frustrating; haven't been to any of the others on the list. What really surprised me is that Minneapolis actually got kudos- I have been in and out of that airport dozens of times and it has never been an easy place to travel from...

LaGuardia, LAX, O'Hare, Dulles... been through all of them several times. I still think the worst is Atlanta though. News on Mineta San Jose International Airport, home of the waving hands begging for peanuts is struggling. The $1.3 billion dollar renovation has put the airport in the hole. The City Council is considering lifting the late night curfew on flights to help offset the deficit. Anyone remember the fines being slapped on Larry Ellison of Oracle for ignoring the curfew?
Hmmm, anyone think just maybe they should have saved the millions on those lighted hands and just painted the building? It's just a parking garage. Geesh.

No Atlanta? Wow. It's the biggest in the world and I've been there more times than I care to share. I've had to run through the terminal several times, and once I spent 12 hours straight there. I've slept there, had a business call there ... there are few things I haven't done in the ATL airport.
Newark and Dallas-Forth Worth are actually my least favorites. In Dallas you don't even have the option to walk between terminals because they're spaced out so far. And Newark is just scary.
Never been to Detroit's, but I've heard horror stories -- including about a pedestrian tunnel connecting terminals that is designed to feel like a rave party. Who needs that? Aren't travelers stressed enough?

I've been in that tunnel..very strange experience indeed, and a mile long to boot. And that's AFTER the rest of the walking required. On the other hand, the Westin Hotel on the property - you don't even leave the terminal - is a good place to be stranded.

The Timing is so Apropos
Mineta San Jose International Airport
Mr. Roadshow is a favorite local columnist with a dry sense of humor, but he always finds the answers and pushes the right buttons to get things fixed.
