Which Add-On Profit Center Generates the Most Revenue for Your Facility?
If you could, take a couple of minutes and vote in the poll if it pertains to you. Will be a big help for an ISS article I'm working on. Thanks!

The best profit center for us, other than storage, is UHaul.

Good point, I decided to include truck rental, even though it's not exactly what I'm looking to discuss in my article. If it's really the best side-source of revenue, then it needs to be represented. Sorry for the omission, astro.

Yes when we were a U-Haul dealer in Florida, we made more money on U-Haul then insurance and all the merchandise put together! It was also WAY MORE work and aggravation then everything else put together too....figures.
Here our biggest profit center by far is UPS shipping....not only the UPS fees themselves, but all the boxes and packaging materials we sell to the customers so they can pack their stuff up to ship it, and best of all, it's not NEARLY as much work or aggravation as truck rentals.Last edited by Lisa T; 29th July 2011 at 06:01 PM.

Re: Which Add-On Profit Center Generates the Most Revenue for Your Facility?
Our center is NOT located on the main road. Community awareness that we exist is our problem. We just took it over eight months ago and it had 35% occupancy.
There have been some thefts from backyard storage buildings in out town. It is of general interest in our area.
We are just about to start some newpspaper articles about a small electronic motion detector (with a remote fob) that emit a high pitched scream 30% louder than a chainsaw when someone breaks in. The unit only costs $21.50 and sells for $45.
We caan't afford $10,000 to $15,000 for an electronic theft system. We can afford to let our tenants pay for added security.
We expect to be able to sell several security units from our PR articles to the general public. We expect some sales to our tenants. The big profit comes from people becoming aware of our facility from the publicity about the motion sensor AND the added security that the sensors bring to our facility.
We might just sell them at cost to our tenants or give them as incentives to new Move Ins. The real gain is the increase in tenants.
We will also be adding aluminum can recycling as fund raisers for commnity groups(churches, civic, schools). Yes we get some some money for the cans but we expect to get a large amount of visitors to the center in the process. The real money is from the awareness.Last edited by lenmay; 3rd August 2011 at 10:07 PM.
