Default New Software on eBay for $34.00 does it all

WOW, this software (free shipping) claims to do it all...site maps. collections, reports, write checks, make toast, and clean units (OK so I took some liberty on the last two).

Some folks will rush out to buy this, not knowing that it may not have the features they need down the road (or even today). I am almost tempted to buy a copy, just to see what it is all about.

I am not a software vendor, but I do know the time, expertise and expense it takes to create and support a full bodied software application, and it is one HECK of a lot more than $34.00 per copy! Sure, this is a modified apartment rental program, and that even sends more concerns my way.

This is absurd as the guy who says he can do a feasibility study for $2,000 or manage your property for 4% of revenues...if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Before you buy ANY good or service, determine how much experience (HANDS ON), how long they have been in business, do they support the industry at trade shows, can you go to the Expo and demo their product, and how is it possible to do the very best job for you at the price they charge. This can be said for services, products and yes, people!

Has anyone out there tried "Super Duper Storage Software" for $34?

RK,

You make a great point. I have watched Self Storage software plummet in price over the last 25 years. As an industry we have over 20 vendors all scrabbling for about 75,000 users world wide.

In realiity this cannot continue. Only the best should and will survive. I don't think a $34 software package serves any real puropse as I am not convinced sites buy software on price, although its a factor. thre biggest reason whay sites buy what they do is based on recomendation. There are very few mavericks who make up thgeir own minds!

In reality, few have the skills to adequately evaluate the software anyway and that's why they buy what others use.

There are few items used in a Self Storage facility that have more impact on its sucess other than the software used. Choosing the right software will pay dividends in the long run.

Many other industries similar to Self Storage pay a LOT more for operational software that delivers far less in service.

As an industry we are very lucky!

Hi RK,

Thanks for the long list of hypothetical things that you think that might be wrong with this particular software but it could have helped us more if you actually used it or saw its function.

Price can not be the single piece that could be judged here. You can use Open Office as FREE, vs paying couple hundred dollars to Microsoft, yet be able do exactly the same things. I am pretty sure that you have heard the term "loss leader". Some companies do not make profit or actually lose money for certain items in their inventory to be able to reach their strategic goals in the future.

I think , with your long list of contact information, you are doing the exact same thing as that software person: try to sell your product or services.

Let us know when you buy and try!

I don't know anything about this software, but I do know that my husband and I started up and operated an Internet Cafe for 5 years, and we purchased a $59 software package that ran the whole system for 12 computers and a server, kept track of our inventory, customers time and money, had plenty of audit tools to keep our employees honest, and did absolutely everything we needed it to do. There were more a lot more expensive softwares out there, but we tried that one first because we couldn't find any reason not too, and never even had to upgrade it.

So higher priced doesn't necessarily mean a better product.
