Default Background Checks

Do you conduct background checks for new employees? What is your protocol? Any good sources?

the owners did a background check on us and our assistant was a family friend so no check really needed there.

As a somewhat smart individual with a small amount of common sense I would have to recommend to all owners out there to do a background check on your mangers including a financial check. The last thing you want is someone with financial problems in charge of your multi-million dollar facility.

Default Background Checks

We do background checks on our employees and use a company called Intelius. The reports are relatively inexpensive (about $50) and are delivered more or less immediately upon ordering them on line. If you choice to conduct a background search you should first obtain a signed authorization form from the job applicant before proceeding.

It is interesting that when we mention the need for the background check during the interview we often get a kind of a "confessional" from a number of the candidates, some of whom tell us about incidents that never even show up after we actually obtain the report.

The link to Intelius is: http://www.intelius.com/screening.ht...ec33101f969bc3

If you are a fee based management company like we are, or if you answer to a partnership and fail to conduct the search and later have a a problematic incident with a manager, you will be opening yourself to potential legal problems if the employee was shown to have a record of improper behavior, given your failure to exercise reasonable care.
