What is your favorite form of self-storage technology (no need for manufacturer's names here) and why? Has anything in particular saved the day? What saves you the most time? Gives you peace of mind? what couldn't you live without? If you could improve technology that exists, what would you wish for?

Proximity access cards used to be the best and most cutting edge form of access control. But what if the access points could actually open by themselves by just walking near them.

I found this company online that can read a FOB in your pocket, or in your car that will automatically let you into certain access points. Star Trek anyone?

Anyways, we did not use this technology since the contract was already awarded by the time I found this info. I don't know how well it works or what it costs.

Matz -- while that technology is super cool -- I am not a fan. Simple fact is it's too easily stolen and abused.

They have something like that for access at the trailer park my folks live at - they are contemplating switching back to code access as too many of the access cards have been stolen and mis-used. They spend too much time administering to the system.

Cost of maintenances is out weighing the coolness.
