Default Enticing Walk-Ins

What outside marketing measures do you have to draw drive-bys? Do you post signs with your specials? Have windsocks twirling in the wind? Tie balloons to the front gate?

Amy,

Unfortunately, and I think you will find others on the forum in the same boat, our City Sign Ordinances don't allow any of that! Banners, twirlers etc! We do have a sign and we change the message on it every week. We do get creative and funny with it though! I wish we could do more to entice walk ins!!

I make banners with our special -- I try to change them often as peoples attention span is short! They only notice if something has changed.

Great idea, Wayne, I drive by a self-storage in downtown High Point, and they have had the same thing on their marquee for probably a year...I can't believe it!! Their is also a church I drive by that has had the same thing on their marquee for over 6 months!.... even my husband noticed (& I thot I was the only one who noticed everyone's marquees!)

Funny how you notice these things when they're part of your everday life!!!

Wayne, you said you make your own banners? Is there a computer program for that? (Sorry, I'm "computer clueless" which is worse than "computer illiterate")

Good point about city ordinances! I thought about this as I was driving home yesterday. There are several businesses with twirling windsocks and balloons including apartment complexes along my route.

Does your ordinance outline what you can and can't do, MCG? Would balloons violate it?

We have a banner facing the main road next to us, and two pretty big light signs.

My husband and I also have two sandwich boards that we will write specials on, and then put really perty balloons as a topping, then plant them on the ends of our street.

Sometimes we will put the face stickers on the balloons, just to grab attention.

We have a banner on the building with our phone #, vehicle storage, etc. But most folks who drive by, and we border the on-ramp to the freeway, notice our large and lovely mural! Sometimes I will get a call from someone who has just driven by on the way to the freeway, and they ask about our vehicle storage, as our large back lot is the next thing they see as they proceed to the freeway. "I am driving by and see that you store vehicles there." "Yes, we do. And I hope you are not using a hand-held cell phone... this is California ya know!"
