The Value of Mentoring
I was wondering if any self-storage facilities/companies had formal mentoring programs and, if so, how they work.
If nothing formal, have any of you participated in informal mentoring -- either you had a mentor or you were someone's mentor?

We do not have anything where I work. I have been in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program for 4 years. Is that what you were wondering about?
We had to go through a pretty tough interview process & background check. I see my little sis once a week. We go to the park or to KFC for dinner and homework. Nothing really expensive we just go out together so if she needs someone to talk with then I am there.
Plus, I love playgrounds and if you are an adult you really can't run around without a kid.The future depends on what you do in the present.

We were in a mentoring program for about 16 months...one of the top 2 storage companies.
We were trained by our memtors, a husband and wife team, then when we took over our facility, they were always available for support. They actually called them "mentors".
I think they call them District Training Specialists now.
It really was awesome.
What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are small matters compared to what lies within us!

Re: The Value of Mentoring
Mentoring is a relationship between an experienced, knowledgeable employee and a new employee. The purpose of the mentoring relationship is to help the new employee quickly absorb the organization’s norms. Mentoring helps in any kind of business and will also help in storage industry.

Yes, our Trainers mentored us for a few extra days. I'm happy to say I work for a company where we can call each other for help/ideas. And I've always extended the offering hand to any new employee. I've been in many situations in my life where I was able to give some one a hand up the ladder and I enjoy just seeing them be successful!
