Scariest Thing That's Ever Happened at Your Facility
In the spirit of Halloween of course, share the time or times where you were the most frightened while working at your facility.

I've got a good one!
I was managing a converted 3 floor warehouse down by the Port of Oakland. I was sitting at the desk when all of a sudden alarms started going off on the third floor. I went up there to see what was wrong, and nobody was around.
I came back to the office, and decided to check the surveillance dvr.
At the EXACT time the alarms went off, a really bright light flashed in front of the camera, then the camera went dark. Then it went REALLY bright again, then went normal.
This spanned the minute it took to get to the third floor, then I saw myself coming out of the elevator!
It had always felt strange up there, but now I'm convinced that it was haunted! What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are small matters compared to what lies within us!

^^That^^ will be tough to beat.
The more I thought about this, the more I realized that a storage facility, actually, could be quite a scary place. Don't take it the wrong way, storage rocks and so do all of you.
I'm just saying when you think about it, employees are often in situtations where they are all alone or nearly all alone, sometimes when it's dark out or flat-out night, with a bunch of rooms containing stuff that the employee has no idea what it is. Sometimes creepy individuals come into the office ... OK, enough, I don't want to give anyone a complex.
I'm just saying you all could probably tell some pretty good stories.

My tenants were talking upstairs and I heard a loud gunshot. Listened nothing. My heart's pounding. Then I noticed the root beer flowing out of the refrigator. I had placed a can in the ice section and the top had blown off.

Peter, that so sounds like something I would do! Today I was training a part-time (1st day) and we were walking around the facility sweeping, etc. We walked by a unit (about 2 feet away from it at the most) and all of a sudden "Blam" and the metal door to the unit shook.
The unit was locked securely. I knocked timidly on the door...thinking of CSI Miami where storage unit is used for human trafficking....nothing...no more sounds...The girl and I looked at each other...like what was that? It was as if someone threw a baseball against the door!!! I called the tenant, she's going to ck her unit on Friday, so maybe something large FELL?!! to be continued......

Peten, that was a good one. Got the ole ticker pumping pretty good I'd bet!
John, yes storage can be a very scary place! I for one NEVER step inside a unit, but I encourage tenants to step and pace out your items to see if the size will work. You never, especially the ladies, want to get locked into a unit, especially when working solo.
Scary? How about arriving home very, very, very late at night, err, umm the next morning only to have a car with no headlights come zooming up nose to nose with your car and two men jump our armed with guns? Yes, it happened. The entire story is in another thread, but they turned out to be PLAIN clothes police from another jurisdiction.
There's always the cracking of the metal roofs as it cools after a hot day that when you're home alone can really jar your nerves.
Or the tenant scaring the bejesus out of you by banging on your windows or door late at night or very early in the a.m. things of that nature. But I think shaekirk's experience gets the prize... so far. I've managed to find, or at least convince myself of a logical explanation for everything I've encountered so far. But remember, I am the one responsible for the nighttime surveillance aircraft so you never know where I may appear.

I love these stories -
How about walking down the halls when the lights go out -- during a hail storm!!! Talking about disorientating!
We also get a lot of sonic booms around here -- the boys up at Edwards like to play at high speeds!! Once again - walking through the inside hallways when one of those hits - WOW!
The scariest -- doing an early morning walk around checking locks -- it's a beautiful morning - very quiet -- then all of a sudden something slams into the roll up door next to me! Turns out a Raven was flying over and dropped an egg it was carrying. Scared the c**p out of me!Wayne

The raven dropping an egg! Wow, that one was crazy! I'd like to see a raven's egg, smashed though it was I'm sure, lol.

I've had a rat or two scurry past me in the dark during walk-through's, that scared and jarred me a bit.
Also, there is a tree by a part of the fence here where I can tell homeless sleep and party sometimes, (I've seen cardboard layed-down), when I walk by there sometimes at dark (with my dog though AND my mace at the ready), I always get nervous. There's a part in a back corner where I never venture near at dark.
And I too, like the other poster, have been jarred by sound on my residence's roof, especially during high winds, sounds EXACTLY like someone is running on it. A mouse rattled my pantry door in the middle of the night two times and it sounded EXACTLY like someone was trying to get in my back door, I was TERRIFIED!
