Murder/Suicide in Las Vegas
Got a call with news today.
The manager at Tivoli Self Storage shot two women, called 911, then shot himself when the police arrived.
During the winter, we were running the SS site next door, and met him occasionally. We thought he was crazy because he bragged about threatening people with his guns, we exchanged greetings over the fence but otherwise steered clear of him. He kept a sign on the front door of his office saying if you knock on this door after hours, he will shoot you.
After we left for a new assignment, he threatened a tenant with guns when the tenant ran a bit over and was still there after gate closing time. His property has manual gates that are locked from 7 pm to 7 am.
So now it's up to last night, a Friday. Events happened at around 8:30 pm, when his gates are supposed to be locked. My supposition is that a tenant either ran over on time, or was trying to sleep in a unit and then there was a confrontation.
Sad times.

I mispelled the name of the storage site, it's Tiberti, not Tivoli.

When you take someone who can't step back from a situation, who works in a rough area, couple that with over 14% unemployment figures in the area and the super hot temperatures of late... bad things tend to happen.
It is sad that this occurred. I knew one man who ran a facility who always carried a firearm on site. That doesn't exude security to me, it would frighten me and I'd rent elsewhere. I don't blame you at all for staying clear AprilWhine, probably a good thing you did.
To help lift your mood a bit after reading this news story and for the other side of the gun-toting self storage manager, there is Steady Eddie, check out Teri's blog. It's an awesome story!Gina 6k

Re: Murder/Suicide in Las Vegas
My wife and I manage a facility close to where this happened. Very tragic. We did not hear about it until Saturday evening though when our gate repair guy told us.
Where are we going and why am I in this handbasket?

Re: Murder/Suicide in Las Vegas
Wow! What a tragic and terribly sad story. AND uneccesary if his prior over-weilding/brandishing of his gun and strange/aggresive behaviour were interuppted. One begins to wonder if the Owner was 100% unaware of all of these things about his Manager? Now, in no way, shape or form am I against a Manager (or anyone) possessing a gun within the realms of the law. We have that right as Americans and 99% of the time they are good to have and rarely need to be used in the correct manner.
