Default Jessa was right............

Jessa I feel your pain. We finally decided to upgrade our horrible Rent Plus software to Sitelink web edition which I love so far. The problem is that PTI has their heads buried in the sand(or somewhere else)and apparently didn't get the message that the majority of new computers are 64 bit and come with windows 7. After 16 hours of PTI tech support trying to get my gates to work, they finally told me that it will be a few months before their system is compatible with windows 7-WHAT????? MONTHS??? So I have to manually open my gate for over 1000 customers? I don't think so, we'll be looking for a new access system provider. Any sitelink web edition users out there that have found gate system that will work?

You're right Bob at Sitelink is great. They spent hours trying to figure out what the problem is only to find out that there is nothing they can do. So after 4 days of loading everything onto a new computer I have to try to get web edition to work on our old computer. It is incredibly frustrating that PTI is not prepared for the latest technology, I totally agree with Dallas Dogger that there is NO EXCUSE for not being ready for Win 7 and 64 bit systems. I asked the PTI tech if he wanted to come and manually open the gate for all 1000 of my customers while I wait for "a few months" until PTI works. He declined. Yeah, so do I.

since you have your old computer, you can do as Jessa is and network them as a temporary workaround so the gate system works as it always has. You don't mention any previous problems with the PTI system, so it seems the only change here is the introduction of Windows 7.

Like all recent MS operating systems, 7 is set up to get automatic updates, all of which can change how the OS works with the apps on your computer. Seeing as how StorLogix is one of the apps a storage business depends on, and one that has had to keep up with Microsoft's numerous previous gyrations, a good amount of testing is necessary and buying a new computer for the sake of buying a new computer may be problematic.

I will be straight and blunt here.

All serious and responsible software companies are prepared for upgrades and changes to operating systems before they hit the market. Everyone knew that Microsoft was working on Windows 7.

I am sorry that so many of you are dealing with the pain.

I will be hosting a webinar next month titled "Considerations in Selecting the Right Management Software." Sign up for the Self Storage Report on my blog www.MichaelTBishop.com to be notified of the date.

Good Luck,

Michael,
The rather obvious implication is that Chamberlain, which is primarily a hardware maker with a software component, is neither serious nor responsible by still being in the compatibility testing phase for Windows 7. Never mind that the bulk of PTI system users felt no need to upgrade computers just because Redmond built a shiny new toy, and never mind that MS's habit of automatically updating operating systems creates issues down the road for OS users.

Funny, but I have to read of anyone posting here about pre-existing problems with either the PTI or Digitech access control systems. Must be in a carefully hidden thread. But, because MS has burped, the world is required to figure out what Mr Gates had for lunch. No wonder Apple gains traction by running those adds in which the PC is promising, yet again, everything is going to be okay. Frankly, we've all been to this movie before and, invariably, the ending is always the same. Perhaps, this conclusion will be different.

I can't speak for the management software companies regarding their compatibility with Windows 7 but they are probably grateful that a real estate broker is taking that role. I appreciate customer frustration and concern, and have talked with more than few folks who question if their access systems are up to par. Invariably, the answer is "it was working fine before we got this new computer", meaning the company has managed to be compatible with previous iterations of Microsoft operating systems and will do so with this one as well.

Though my years in this industry, I have used many different and many different versions of storage software, and many different types of gate software.

My personal favorite gate software is and has been PTI. Why, you may ask? Because it has beent the simplest to operate, and the simplest to maintain. So, Mr Gates had sauerkraut for lunch, and we all burp (I liked that analogy) in sympathy. Not. As has been state for many years, Microsoft has let it's customers debug the software that they issue at a high price.

Sorry that PTI (Chamberlin) has delayed releasing an update to its operator software, while waiting for Bill (his friends call him Bill) decides what is for lunch tomorrow.

The point that just because MS has released new software, doesn't mean that you need to rush right out to purchase a new computer. If the cell companies release a new phone (like they do everyday or so) you don't run out to by the new one, do you.

PTI is a very good system.

Hey Alex as I spoke to you on the phone about a week ago we have had previous problems including waiting hours for tech support the guy reffered to us from your company did the work half way and ran off after he got all monies and sold us cheaper hardware he is no where to be found and unfourtunaly You have no way of helping us find him RANDAL ADKINS is the name but after speaking to you I do belive you have taken care of the situation the best you can and got RANDAL ADKINS off your list of installers or at least I hope so. I still belive though that we shouldnt have to be going through this headache that yall should of been up and ready with windows 7. But in the same breath Im being patient and beliving in this first quater you will have something ready for windows 7. As for us we purchased a new computer because the one we had was old and it needed to be updated not because a new os came out.
