Top 3 Security Strategies
Self-storage sees its fair share of bad stuff. While most facilities now have cameras and DVRs, stuff still happens. So what are your top 3 security strategies?

Something that we have tried to do with our cameras is make them as obvious as possible. We put them in obvious locations that no one can miss and then put strips of reflective tape across the housings. It serves two purposes, advertises our cameras to potential customers, and also to potential thieves. There's my 2 cents.
btw, Hello! First post! Been lurking a while and thought it was finally my time to start chiming in.

AndyN, I'll join MCG in welcoming you to the wonderful world of posting on SST. May the Power of SST be with you, always.
Our security is basic. Gate, bears, wolves, coyotes, you know all the normal stuff you find on storage facilities. Did I mention the foxes?

Not trying to hijack this thread, but MusicCity Gal, you must be from the Nashville area? Am I right? We are in East Tennessee is the reason I'm asking.

We have cameras, television screens that can be seen through the front doors, key code access, you name it. I still think that the very best thing we do is to be present on our property alot. It has been so helpful and reassuring to tenants that we live here. I tell them upon move in that they will see me on the property as much if not more than in the office. I also let them know that we are raising children here and are often outside at play in the evenings. I think that when they actually see us out there it is like the Ah Ha moment , there is someone watching and looking

I view the property literally as our back yard and with children and puppies I never take my eyes off it!
Lovin it.
