Looking for new software... suggestions?
Hi,
We are a 600+ unit facility. Open about 5 years. Looking to upgrade our software. We are currently running RentPlus (with PTI).
We are looking for better flexability and the opportunity to link the payments it takes with our website... but do not want to run a web-based program.
We have been looking at SelfStorageManager. It seems to have everything we are looking for... So I thought I'd ask if anyone knew anything about it? used it? liked it? disliked it? or had other suggestions.
Thanks in advance!
Marti

Re: Looking for new software... suggestions?
Marti,
I don't know that I've heard of that particular software, I know that in the 100's of site audits we've conducted we've never run across it. Curious about why you don't want to use a web-based system? The web-based systems would give you so much more flexibility, including adding rates and reservations to a website and off site reporting. I would encourage you to take a look at webselfstorage.

Re: Looking for new software... suggestions?
Call Shaina at Quikstor. They have so many great new features. Seems every few months they add something I never thought I needed and now can't do without. In February (a short month) I have had more tenants pay rent online than ever before. It was well over 25% of last months income. My only drawback is, I used to enjoy going to the Post Office and getting the mail from the PO box as they do not deliver mail here. I always had a handfull of checks. In the last year I am getting fewer checks and seems like more bills and junk mail.

I use Sitelink Webedition and like it a lot.
Regardless, you've asked the right question in looking for user who currently use the software you looking to transition to. Make sure you get your answers and comfort up before you switch. I'm sure your prospective software provider should have a at least 3 or 4 references of people who have the same demands as your site and who may have even done the transition from REnt Plus. Their feedback is invaluable and usually the best info on whether you should proceed.
Good luck!

Re: Looking for new software... suggestions?
Marti- I'm in the same boat....400 units, RentPlus with PTI. I've been looking all over since we got the news that RentPlus sold to Centershift. A dealbreaker for me is any software that will not interface seamlessly with PTI. The cost of software replacement is high enough, I'm not going near my security system.
For my needs, which are somewhat unique, I found Quikstor to be wildly expensive. I'm not a fan of Sitelink or Syrasoft for other reasons, found Space Control too outdated, couldn't access Storage Commander's website and felt DHS Total Recall was not far enough into the storage industry for my liking. WinSen seemed too basic for me and I didn't care for the interface.
For me, the ones on the bubble are Storman (no relation, I was here first with that name), Domico and Centershift.
I wasn't interested in moving to Centershift just because RentPlus sold to them, but after a long email exchange full of questions with Mike Richards, the owner of RentPlus and someone that I very much trust, I must say that Centershift is most interesting.
I'm planning on doing some in depth research at the ISS show in Las Vegas in a couple of weeks. In no way affiliated with Storman software.

We use webselfstorage.com It is a wonderful site. We've used it since opening Jan 2007 and it is very user friendly. It less than $50.00 a month. They have online help for free and I've always gotten my questions answered. This is my personal experience.
