We definitely feel your pain ... we had a lot in our first batch. It is extremely frustrating for us and moreso our customers. Its such an inconvenience particularly when it malfunctions in the latch. We got a replacement batch but unfortunately were still having problems at a rate of about 10%.

I've got a jammed lock that I'm taking down to Chateau as I want to speak to them in person lock in hand about this.

We have spoken to them and they just give us some run around "try this bs" and even sent us some small drill bits... they say to drill right into the key hole and it will "just pop right off", it don't and I have tried a few times. My record for getting a lock off is 23 seconds using a 1/2 inch bit, but with these jammed locks it seems to create more problems getting the lock off, out of that 7 I have stripped 3

So much extra labor has been created due to this, I'd say each instance cost us 30min to an hour if it strips, plus a now a number of my new customers now have a "bonus" unit because they had already moved in some of their stuff when it jammed and I'm not about to tell them to pull it all out because of this BS. Very angry at the moment, it always seems to happen at the worst time too lol. And Chateau knows about this are are handling it terribly, they could be doing more to help.

After were done with these were also done with Chateau locks!

I think its hard for them to understand just how damaging this is to there reputation and of course ours. Customers can get quite upset and there are so many battles out there with economy and sales this is the last thing we need. Imagine a 24hr customer whose key is stuck in the lock at 930pm. Far from happy particularly when inventory that needs to be installed is locked inside and now there customer is pissed. The domino complaiints are huge.

Need a new supply of working locks asap.

I hear that! Today I started a new practice until I get some new locks, now I'll open 5 locks a day and try them all out on my "test unit" to find the defective ones... What a pain. If you hear anything good let me know

We are having problems with our Chateau locks like others on this thread have noted. (We are using C-480-EZ-S-CD-KD.) We open them all up when we get them and test in advance. Failure rate is running above 5% which is bad.

Are there other lock manufacturers who make lots that fit these cylinders?

There are others but you hopefully got an old bad batch. I know Chateau replaced all our defective boxes and that solved the problems. I suggest you contact Chateau ASAP and get your box of locks swapped.

We had the same problem. We switched over to U-Haul and have had no problem with their locks. Most of U-Haul's merchandise is less expensive then Chateau, some of it a LOT less expensive, and you get free shipping. Plus they have an excellent variety. I liked Chateau because they shipped fast and accurately, but the lock thing got on my nerves and started me looking elsewhere...so I'm happy we switched.
