Default Fence specs

I searched under Chain link fence and did not find what I was looking for. What I would like to know is from those of you who could do it all over again as far as your fence and gate is concerned:
1. What would you do different when constructing your fence?
2. What gauge chain link is best (I'm in Kansas if that matters)?
3. What gauge/thickness and outside diameter of poles is best (both corner posts and other posts)?
4. Set all poles in concrete or tamp them every 6"?
5. Gate ideas?
6. Recommended suppliers to purchase from which would save me the most money but maintain quality (can email me that info. if that kind of info. is not allowed on this forum)?
I apologize if this is a repeat question. I just wanted expert opinions on the questions above and those that I probably did not think of to ask.
Thanks, Brad

I don't have an answer for your chain link fence questions as the owners put up a block fence - in my opinion this is the best choice. It may cost more up front, but in the long run it will look better and last longer.

As a bonus, once it's painted, it's a great place to hang banners and signs!

Default know your terrain and weather patterns.

When we were constructed, part of our fence boarders wetlands. the installers didnt take into consideration the ground would be soft throughout the year and with regular heavy winds and rain in fall, this was not a good combination. We had the posts redug further into the ground to fix the problem.

You definately want a heavy guage. I managed a property with very large company. a drunk driver veared off the road and ran into the outside corner of the fence. had it been a weaker fence, his car would have fallen about 4 feet down onto my drive aisle and perhaps run into one of my buildings. In this case the company was too busy merging with another large company to put any emergency funds into fixing the fence or even highering security to watch the property at night until it was fixed.

if you can stand a referral, AmeriStar is based in Tulsa and is all about fencing and gates. I don't know about pricing, but from a quality standpoint, this is a reputable company.

We use steel, the same steel that most storage buildings are made of. 26ga PBR panels screwed down to the 16ga red-ox steel, the supports are buried 2 foot deep set in concrete. All of our fences are 7ft tall.
