    Default WHAM Conversion

HELP! I have an old WHAM system with each unit on my property being individually wired. I am looking to convert to another security system but cannot find any company that will use the existing WHAM wired contacts. The cost to re-wire my facility would be $70,000+. Does anyone know of any system that I can convert to that will use the WHAM contacts. Any help would be appreciated.

Another vendor to look at is PTI: http://www.ptisecurity.com/selfstorage/SelfStorage.html

I believe they offer both wired and wireless products. Not sure if your existing wiring is compatible.

Thanks Steve but I've found just the wireless equipment for each door can run $40 to $60 each. That's why I want to use the WHAM contacts and wiring and just replace the system in the office. If anyone knows of anything let me know. Thanks.

I’m not familiar with Wham setup so I assume it’s just a pair of magnets hard wired and located on each door. PTI and Sentinel both have hard wired door setup. There is a difference in the way they configured their grounding setup an each company has their own MUX boxes, controllers and keypads. Tech support from either company should explain their compatibility with Wham. If you decide to contact either company be sure to inquire about an installer(S) in you area.

    Sentinel

    PTI
The advantage with Sentinel is they have all the security hardware, software and management software. When there’s a problem, only one call and no buck passing.
PTI dropped their management software so if there’s a problem; well you’ll have to figure that one out!

Why not just update your set up with WHAM?

I tried to. But apparently WHAM never modernized and only still uses antique, out-of-date computers. The features are extremely limited. That is why I want to update. If they would have modernized then I would have stayed with them, but the technology seems very 1995.

We did a conversion and hardware swap on our systems and essentially the contacts were somewhat generic. As long as they wired into the mux boards we were good to go. I would hope you could continue to use all your contacts and wires that are in place. Did you check with PTI?
