That's awesome...we do AM lock check and a PM lock check every day. A printed out walk thru report is performed once a week and we note them with any issues we come across like a not properly latched unit etc....

Exactly! I asked them about that and they said they were definitely retraining that relief manager to A.) Not allowing any lock cuts if staff is not present, and B.) escorting them to the correct unit and only staff can cut lock not the tenant or anyone representing the tenant. And,while they do lock checks once a week probably should be doing it more often and they would have caught it right away. They learned a lesson, and they are lucky it didnt cost them big time.

The relief manager reviewed the paperwork, made sure the lock cut authorization paperwork was in order, verified the unit number and then let the moving company in to access the unit BUT the moving company cut the wrong lock and moved the contents of the wrong unit all the way across country. Upon doing a lock check a few days later they realized the mix up. The mover tried to say its not his responsibility . After having the attorney review all the footage and documents they determined that while storage facility may have been slightly negligent in allowing them to cut a tenants lock without supervision but the fault lays with the moving company.(Mainly because the lease says the storage facility is not responsible even in the event of negligence.) So the moving company now has to pay to get the wrong units stuff shipped back here AND ship the correct stuff out.I said all that to say this: Make sure somebody didn't move out the wrong unit Weird things do happen!
Oh. my. goodness. That is awful! So much unnecessary negligence. *face palm*

very unit has a cylinder lock that we supply the keys for. We used to charge a one time lock rental fee that was good for life. For example a tenant stores again in the future the fee is waived. We now most times waive the fee for everyone.

As far as the lock cut, No one but me is allowed to do it. I have had tenants that lost one key and instead of replacing through us for 15 bucks goes to a hardware store and has one cut. I even had a guy return 1 of our keys and his fresh cut key that did not work. If the key is not what I gave them they are paying. After all I will not give out one of our chrome colored keys and their brass key.

I have the office door locked and when I see a customer drive up I will walk out to greet them with my mask on.

If it is a payment they are usually glad to not have to get out of the car in the Florida sun. I take their payment, come into the office to post it, print out the receipt and...
