  • AC Experts out there?

I've had to have 2 AC units replaced within the last year. Now I have 2 more!! that are leaking freon. All within the same building. They are 12-13yrs old which I know is not brand new, but find it odd that they would all start leaking freon almost simultaneously. I've even gotten a 2nd opinion about the leaks because I thought I may have been getting "scammed". They all are on a regular 6 month service contract. We are in a high humidity area if that makes a difference. Any ideas on why this is happening or suggestions on what we could do in the future to prevent this?

And you are 100% certain it is freon that is leaking and is just now condensation leaking because the plug/drain area is clogged???
Don't put off until tomorrow, what you can do today.

Yes, both were completely out of freon. Luckily the temps here have been mild so the other units have been keeping up. We have 7 total in this building, but come summer we need all of them going 24/7.

You wouldn't by chance be on a well with sulfur water would you? The sulfur gas in the water will attack the coils. Do you know where the units are leaking from? If its just a bad joint they can be brazed and recharged pretty easy.

City water. Only know its the coils that's leaking. 2 separate companies have confirmed it. They both say it's more cost effectifve to change out the whole air handler than just the coils. This will be 4 units in the last year in a building with 7 total. These latest 2 were found during their 6 month servicing. At this point, I'm ready to blame it on the air freshners!!! LOL
