  • Ashes to ashes.....

    Hello All,
This is my first post and look forward to talking with everyone. Im glad I found this forum for self storage owners. The info Ive read so far has been most beneficial. I have a unit that I have recently took over and found a persons cremated remains inside. Anyone know what laws there are about what to do with the remains? Thank you for your comments in advance.

Welcome-and boy, many of us have been where you are. I asked a storage lawyer and he said, 1. You can call your local coroner and ask if they could take it. Also-depending on how small of a town or how rural, maybe your local sheriff? 2. if you can find the crematory, call them and ask them to take it. He also said, the lawyer that is, if it's not immediately obvious, and if you're not squeamish, dump the ashes in a large bucket and find the metal tag from the crematorium, then call them. If all of the above fail, call your local cemetery and ask if they have 'potters field', or a poor person's area and give it to them.
It's sad but this is far from abnormal in self storage.
I know it's been a good day when I didn't have to unleash the flying monkeys.

I have non profits I, give units too. I have some I give reduced rent in exchange for advertising, and I have some that pay our full rates. It all depends on what they want.

I don't think just giving away a unit generates anything. But there are groups that I give units too that...

Of course Google gives little value to a town with a different name. Name of town is the dominate element of a Google search. Not to mention, that New Castle is 4 miles from the center of Renton. Google doesn't even get anywhere close to New Castle until the 12th listing.

        Renton is not...
