My husband and I own and run our facility together. We took the kids up one day to get some work done. We needed to sweep some units out, check for rent money, blow leaves...etc. You know how that goes.
We pulled up to find our brand new fence is...damaged. Did someone hit it? We looked at the cameras and sure enough, this guy backed in to the fence, looked around, pulled forward and hit the concrete barrier next to the office. His truck shook. We see which unit is and the driver is actually wearing a t shirt that has the guy's last name on it. Anyway, the tenant tried to say it wasn't them, but quickly changed their story when we said the police are on the way and we're watching it on camera. We got the truck DOT # and the number and the tenant's driver's license number. The police officer's eyes lit up when we showed him the information in the CRM.
The guy calls later and wants to speak to the owner... no it's not me... oh you are an owner. Please don't call the police... I'm military... you won't understand the trouble I'm in if they find out..... The phone got REALLY quiet when I told him I'm a veteran and was fully aware of the repercussions.
The story ends with a repaired fence and no legal trouble. I just can't believe the guy tried to pull the military card.
