  • Auctioneers paid flat fees instead of commission?

I spoke to a fellow auctioneer from Illinois at the National Auctioneers Association and he stated that many facilities, especially in the Greater Chicago area pay a flat fee to their auctioneers instead of a percentage of the gross sales. Does anyone engage in this practice and would you care to explain the reasoning behind flat fees versus a commission?

I prefer a percentage based payment to an auctioneer, flat rate payment and they have no incentive to get more out of the unit. If they get a percentage they are more inclined to get as much as possible out of a unit.

In Washington we are not required to advertise in the newspaper. Many auctioneers work for a flat fee since the facilities will only pay them that way. I don't think that auctioneers who get a flat $150 to do an auction really try very hard. In the long run, the facility loses money this way. There is also a strong argument that it is not commercially reasonable.

and re-painted doors, so I can't have them pressure wash them. I wanted to know if anyone had a surefire dirt remover for their roll up doors? I'm thinking of squirt of dawn soap and vinegar in water. Anyone have something better?...

A lot of managers are by themselves, including me-most of the time. I have to do the rounds by myself and I wouldn't even think twice about lifting an unlocked door to check if it's empty or whatever....

I'm definitely crafty! I crochet, knit, sew, cook, bake, garden, write and more and love coming up with ideas and making them a reality. Never could embroider well, did a few cross stitch things and latch hook when I was younger. I can see something and turn around and make it myself. I'm also well-versed...
