Spooky stuff that happens on site

Since we are so close to Halloween, I thought I'd ask what are some of the scariest things you've ever come across as a facility manager or maintenance person? Or maybe any pranks or stunts that have happened around Halloween? Personally, at one facility I used to manage we had a collection of left...

I Love the classics of course... but I also have a twisted sense of humor. I highly recommend Twisted Christmas Carols by Bob Rivers, with contributions from Weird Al and other artists that have artfully re-worded Christmas Classics, featuring songs like : "There's a Santa who looks a lot like...

I'm always on the look out for affordable ways to enhance my education in the storage industry. Reading all the industry related articles I can find, getting great ideas and feedback from places online like Self Storage Talk.Going to the Storage conferences are always fun, but can be pricey. My goals...

Thats a hard one. Because pay rates vary from state to state, and even in the same state you can see as much as a few thousand $$$ difference a month depending on who you work for. I would say know your worth. Dont be afraid to negotiate terms with the owner. Maybe ask for periodic bonuses if the pay...

replied to Who steals 12ft move in special flag
StorageBee, I had something similar happen 2x. We take our flags in every night- but twice now we have had to replace the metal stand ( the part the flags slide into )because someone takes them! Who does that, and why?! We have them on camera, just walking up, dislodging the stand, and walking off with...

In addition to the fun and friendly atmosphere, the majority of our 605 units are Indoor climate controlled units (stays about 65 degrees year round (according to the thermometer in the hallway) We have 20 of the larger 10x30x15 drive up units, also climate controlled. Our indoor units...

  • Because I am a little bit of a worrier- I would document every unit, take a picture and attached it to a filled out Abandoned Unit form and hold on to those records for at least 2 years ( you never know when someone will show up out of the blue, right?) I would also get something in writing from the...

  • Do any of the other units have current leases? I would follow the auction process for those just to CYA. Or at the very least fill out an abandoned unit form. Otherwise, if there is no lease in place, I say toss it. Its all junk.

replied to Messy and Rude Moving Company Employees
I'd love to send the moving company a cleaning bill. I did approach the tenant about them, because technically the tenant invited them onto the property. In the rental agreement paperwork it says the tenant is responsible for their guests behavior. So I used that to enforce the cleaning up part of...

Messy and Rude Moving Company Employees

I'm seriously annoyed with these movers that show up and leave a big mess behind them: strips of packing paper trailing down the halls, tape stuck to the floor, garbage from their lunches throughout the hallways or stuffed into the small bathroom garbage can overflowing onto the floor. They take all...

After an auction, if the unit doesn't sell we add the cost of disposal and clean up to the amount owed and document how we dispose of it ( donated to Goodwill, taken to the dump- get the receipt for it) and we give the tenant 30 days to make payment arrangements. If they don't, then we send it to collections.We...

My husband runs a separate facility ,where we live on site. There is a sign posted on our private door that says "After Hours Non-Emergencies will be fined $50.Definition of Emergency: Fire, Flood, or Blood. Please be considerate of managers posted office hours." Of course we would still help...

  • It's a very rare thing for us to accept a partial payment. The only time I have ever done that was for a long term tenant who became ill and fell behind in all of her payments. Her family came in begging us to try and help her but of course none of them could come up with money. So,it sat unpaid for...

Several of our stores experienced the same issue, so you're not alone pacnwstorage. We were just told to wait for a response from QS Support. I wonder where they are headquartered? Maybe they had a weather related issue that disrupted their communications?
